The Legend of 1900

A man in a big ship plays the piano and makes music not even coming down to the ground. The whole life of this man is in the ship even though he knows when his death comes. This is the story of ‘1900’. Because his ‘dad’ found him in the year of 1900 that became his name. His full name is actually, ‘Danny budman TD Lemon 1900’. A worker of the Virginia ship found a child in a high class ball room. But soon as he found that the baby was alone, he decides to raise him as his son. Although Danny dies in the boat by an accident, 1900 still lives in the ship by his genius talent, playing the piano.

There are some things that I was impressed and surprised watching this movie. First of all, I was amazed to watch the situation and the background that this movie made of the 1900’s period. The excitement about going to America, the suit, dress that people wore, the party and everything was new for me. Sometimes remembering the old days is an interesting thing to do. The history makes us think about many things that we have to be grateful of. Second, the friendship of 1900 and his friend Max were very special for each other. To save a friend who he really cares, no matter what others say, he believes in his friend no matter what. Last but not least, I really was surprised by 1900’s personality. Not only because he was raised and lived a life in a laborer’s hands, but also the person himself is pure and out of ill wills. His life is not about money or honor to show off others. He lives with the things he has, and that is his happiness through his world. Like, when he was in a competition with the other pianist, Max asks 1900, “Tell the truth, are you scared?” and he replies “I don’t know, why duel? What happens if we have a duel? ” Like this 1900 is an innocent pure spirit that we can hardly find in these days. 1900 plays the piano not only in the top class ball rooms, but also in the storage where the weak are.

Some people say that this movie standers modern people who are living in a life just like a bird in a cage. So it is like criticizing the society. But I think it in a different direction. What we see and what we feel is important. There are many things in this world that we have to learn and have it for myself. 1900 tells us all to be pure and respect others like he shows us in the movie. It doesn’t matter if you are black or white. The thing that matters is in your personality and your words and behaviors. Think about it. This can change the future that will come upon you!
