HWPL Peacebuilding

On February 8, a grand peace festival entitled “We are one for Peace to attain Sustainable Development” at the Philippine Sports Stadium, Bulacan, will be held to launch nationwide peace movement throughout the country’s State Universities and Colleges.
This event is expected to have 30,000 participants including social representatives in the Philippines and international peace activists including the organizers – Volunteer Individuals for Peace (VIP) by Dr. Ronald Adamat, CHED’s Commissioner and Mr. Man Hee Lee, Chairman of HWPL (Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light), who organized this event as a peace NGO under the UN ECOSOC.

“The highlight of this peace event is to give inspiration of citizen participation in peacebuilding. Cultural performances will represent harmony under peace beyond differences in ethnicity, religion or nationality. Also, the principles of peacebuilding with civic participation and national support will be introduced – the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW),” said Mr. Ian Seo, General Director, Department of Public Relations, HWPL.
The DPCW, the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War, addresses principles of conflict resolution and international cooperation for peace building such as prohibition of use of force, peaceful dispute settlement, and spreading a culture of peace through education and citizen activism, within 10 articles and 38 clauses.

As a partnership in promoting a culture of peace between the City Government of Paranaque and HWPL, there will be an inauguration of the “PEACE ROOM” in Paranaque City Public Library where peace education materials will be exhibited to inspire daily visitors. According to organizers of this project, “peace corner and peace room will be established in different libraries nationwide to raise awareness of peacebuilding to citizens.
Last January 2018, Commissioner of Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and HWPL signed an MOU to promote peace education throughout public colleges in the country. Approved by CHED, peace education together with indigenous people education is now integrated in all Higher Education Institutions nationwide.

“Promoting peace education through the CHED will affect many Philippine educational institutions and play a crucial role in promoting peace in the Philippines,” said Dr. Adamat.

“We should think of how we can achieve peace. It should start by teaching peace to the youths,” emphasized Mr. Lee in his last visit to the Philippines. As a representative of HWPL, Mr. Lee, a Korean peace activist and Korean War veteran will visit in February to advocate global cooperation for peace building.

HWPL Chairman to hold Peace Talks

HWPL Peace Delegation’s peace tour in Philippines has been proceeding for eight full days, reaching its curtain call today on January 29. HWPL Chairman Man Hee Lee and the peace delegation had peace talks with Mayor Ronnel Rivera of General Santos City at the Green Leaf Hotel. "The Mindanao Peace Agreement which was concluded in General Santos City was the starting point of all peace works in Mindanao," said Chairman Lee, asking for the future cooperation to bring out a bigger wave of peace in General Santos.
Being appointed as an HWPL Publicity Ambassador, Mayor Ronnel Rivera promised to cooperate in the peace movements in the local communities.
Also the Peace Delegation met Mr. Manny Pacquiao, the world-renowned Filipino world champion professional boxer. Also a member of the Philippine House of Representatives in Sarangani province, Mr. Pacquiao invited the HWPL Peace Delegation to his house. After the meeting, he has promised to cooperate for justice and peace in the Philippines as an HWPL Publicity Ambassador.
Meanwhile, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) has launched the HWPL National Committee on Peace in IBP and celebrated a signboard hanging ceremony. The launching ceremony took place at the South Cotabato Gymnasium with more than 200 representative attorneys of each IBP branch. The IBP has appointed Chairman Lee and IWPG Chairwoman Nam Hee Kim as advisers of the committee and HWPL has appointed 9 Board of Governors and 84 representatives of the IBP branches as the HWPL Publicity Ambassadors.

Man-Hee Lee, on documentary film

Chairman Lee is now a famous peace advocate world-wide. He is still actively participating in peace activities traveling through around the world. Nowadays, he is meeting many presidents and ex-presidents, politicians, and religious leaders to have them sign the peace agreement. Anyone who has met him highly appreciates about what he did in Mindanao and what he is doing now.

A famous French photographer, one of those who were deeply moved by his works, tried to make his interview into a documentary. Actually, he was making the film by interviewing different types of people from all over the world and people from the poorest to the richest, from commoners to the famous celebrities. Then he bumped into Chairman Lee and luckily had a chance to interview him. While interviewing Chairman Lee, he was impressed by his answers and teachings so a 30minute-interview got extended to an hour. Even for a single person, Chairman Lee answers to the questions sincerely. From his behavior, I also can see how people were greatly impressed because he does not speak peace only by the word, but he shows a modest attitude and respectful behavior to others no matter who that person is. I think this is what a true peace activist has to be!

By next year, the documentary film will be screened in the United Nations general assembly. I think it will be a great lesson to not only the leaders of UN but also for us. We need to be a person who truly loves the world and peace.
